Dargle Spectacular
March 2006

This year, the annual Dargle Spectacular occured a little later in the racing season. Traditionally held over the Australia Day weekend, the event being moved to get everyone out of the very weather that has occured over the late January weekend. Speactator numbers were a little down on other years, but certainly much better behaved.

While there was a big attrition rate in regards to the blown boats over the weekend, the so called support races stepped up to the plate and provided excellent racing all weeknd long.

The hydros especially were very entertaining. It must also be said that the hydro class was probably the most evenly matched. For most races, the full field were only spread over a quarter of a lap, where as some of the other classes had the back markers finish a lap down.
The major news for the weekend was that Steve Moran looks to have the little firebreathing Nissan FJ20 in fine form. The little boat now showing lots of promise based on the effort theat Steve has being put in to the boat. Paul Vella eve mentioned that he was surprised to look right and see Steve matching it for speed with Impatient.

Tight battles up the front and down the back of the pack in most races allowed for plenty of action. A few of hte hydros even entered into the Chiquita Cup 5.2 litre Open, although they didn't make it through to the final.

Another successful showing on behalf of the hydros. It was great to see. There were also some other interesting incidents such as Beefa unable to fire up for one or two races. Similar situation for Thrifty Too, where two DNFs were registered due to hose downs.
